Facing stiff competition at the 2018 N.C. Brewers Cup, HopFly Brewing Co. took home two medals, winning a gold medal for Crunch Time Munich Helles Lager in the Pale Malty European Lager category.

HopFly also won a bronze medal in the IPA category for Beach Beer Session New England Style IPA.

“We’re really proud of the beer we create, and this a another nice validation that all of our hard work is really starting to pay off,” said HopFly founder and head brewer Cam Schulz. “It’s pretty cool.”

The Brewers Cup wins cap off an incredibly successful first year for the young brewery, which is celebrating it’s first anniversary on Nov. 17.

In June, HopFly served beer at Juicy Brews Richmond, one of the premier invitational-only festivals in the country. And in September, the HopFly team traveled to Denver to pour their beer at the renowned Great American Beer Festival.

HopFly recently began canning its beer and is slowly growing their distribution reach. HopFly beer can be found at select craft beer shops in Rocky Mount, Wilson, Goldsboro, Raleigh, Apex and Durham.

“The strong response to our product in the market and our consistent growth is really just a testament to the hard work and dedication of Austin Baker, brewer, and the rest of the growing HopFly team,” Schultz said.

HopFly Brewing’s anniversary party will be held from 5 p.m.-midnight Nov. 17 at the brewery on the campus of the Rocky Mount Mills. They are celebrating with the release of three new canned beers and a full night of musical entertainment.

Funk-rock band Psylo Joe from Greenville will be playing from 6-9 p.m. and DJ Nay Fong of Raleigh will take over after that. It should be a great celebration of a successful first year in business

Seventy-six breweries across the state entered 624 beers in the N.C. Brewers Cup, the official beer competition of the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild and the North Carolina State Fair as well as a sanctioned Beer Judge Certification Program competition.
